Southern Magnolia Living is a beautiful facility – tastefully decorated, bright and cheerful. My mother has been a resident there for several months and we are so grateful to have found such a place! The staff is efficient and loving, and the small setting has allowed the owners and staff to get to know my mother quite well, and vice versa – so important when working with this population. My mother would not get such individualized care and attention in a larger facility. It is very comforting to our family that my mother is getting the absolute best care in a beautiful and nurturing environment. Candy Moore, the owner and an RN, is wonderful!
Finding a loving, caring and professional environment was our top priority in a home for our Mom who has special needs. We hit the jackpot with Southern Magnolia and she could not be happier! The facility and staff are wonderful, and we rest easy knowing that Mom is in the best, most professional hands possible! If I could give them 10-stars, I would!
One week after opening its doors for providing care SML took mom in for what was intended to be 3 weeks of respite care while I travel. Not long into the stay Mom asked about making SML her permanent home. It made sense since Mom was turning 91 in a couple of months and her ambulating needs had increased, beyond what I could provide. The family’s biggest concern with Mom living with us was falling, especially in the shower, as primary caregiver and her son showing was a tad bit awkward. The care Mom received at SML was exceptional, not only professional, but loving from both the staff and other residents. We received text message with funny videos and cute photos of Mom having fun with residences and staff. The atmosphere at SML is welcoming, fun and safe. Mom’s a social butterfly and at the same time would dive into her novels. SML provides each resident the opportunity to participate in socializing, read a book, watch movies or enjoy any one of the lovely open concept appointed rooms (Sunroom is Mom’s favorite).
As it happens when you get older in life Mom’s health began to fail. Truly this is where an ‘aging in place’ residence really does it magic. Mom decided hospice was for her and without disturbing her residence by moving her away from her new friends we began the farewell process. Mom’s extended family, children, nieces, grandchildren and even a great grandchild came to visit Mom. Despite the label of hospice Mom passed away peacefully with her children beside her. The compassion, love and support from Candy, Mike and the caregivers is so powerful, you can’t help but feel them as extended family. We are forever grateful for what SML (Candy and Mike) were able to give us to send Mom ‘Home’ the very best way possible. We celebrate her life and rejoice Mom is with all our family and friends who went before us.
I’ve had the privilege of watching the idea for Southern Magnolia Living come to life, be constructed, watching the residents move in, and seeing the owners take pride in creating a one of a kind home for our loved one’s final years. This is the place I hope to find final elegant comfort in when it’s my time.
May I add that one of the major reasons I knew that southern Magnolia was right for my family was both of you? I could see your passion Mike and this morning’s conversation confirms it. Some people say they’re transparent; you live it. Candy, as a Hospice nurse, had a vision of how seniors can live the last years of their life with dignity. She made it happen. This is not a job for the both of you. This is a mission. This is a vocation. I saw and felt it. Yes, your home is beautiful but more importantly its foundation is rock solid. I have total peace about my decision to entrust my mom’s care with you both because I see God’s hand all over it.
Dear Candy,
Where to start? Thank you just doesn’t seem enough for all that you do. You made my/our journey so much better. I can’t even imagine going through this without you or Transitions Lifecare. Your heart was present every time you were here. So much compassion for my mother and always my biggest supporter. I truly appreciate you. Thank you for being you.
Blessings,

My name is JP and I am a veteran of WakeMed. I’ve worked here 25 years and know a Daisy when I see one. When I had to deal with the hospital doctors not knowing my condition and what I needed, Candy jumped in, made phone calls, got all my medications straight, and treated me like the first lady. Hats off to her and the staff. I couldn’t have made it without them.
After a rough couple of days, Candy quickly became a breath of fresh (& positive) air. The previous nurses would say things like “you should go for a walk.” But they would just leave the room. Candy was different, in a good way, from the very start. She helped me to get ready and listened to my concerns.
When I expressed not being able to get the broth or Jell-O down, she came up with a solution. She helped me through pain and helped me to set goals. She helped me to think positively which was essential for me getting better. Candy went above and beyond with a smile, graciousness, and willingness. Nurses and nurse aides could learn a lot through her example and positive energy! Candy always followed through with what she said she would do.
Candy is TOP NOTCH!
Thank you ever so much Candy for your help and kindness. No words can express how we feel. I wish there were more people like you taking care of the seniors. Thank you and bless you!
Candy Moore cared for one of my patients over the last few months. Candy did a MARVELOUS job and I want to make sure that she is recognized. She was a great patient advocate, created comprehensive plans, pulled in the whole team when needed, didn’t peck at me yet gently reminded me when I forgot to follow through on orders, and kept patient at home as was the family’s goal.
I am so thankful we found Southern Magnolia Living for my mom. Candy took great care in finding the best staff to care for the residents, and I always felt like my mom had the best care possible. I felt at home coming to visit, and appreciated the extra effort to celebrate holidays. It was really nice to have a smaller amount of residents so I could get to know them as well as the staff. My mom felt very loved and cared for by the staff, and I could rest assured that my mom was fully taken care of, and actually pampered. I highly recommend Southern Magnolia Living. |
